KidsNetBlocker Check my router

Switch the internet off for one device. From your phone.

A child's tablet at bedtime. A games console during homework. One tap pauses that device, one tap brings it back. Everything else in the house keeps working.

Check my router

We set it all up for you. If your router can't do it, we'll tell you straight, and which one would.

The Smith family

This one works. Press Pause.

Who it's for

Built for families at home.

7
devices, at home

For parents

Tablets, phones on the Wi-Fi, laptops, games consoles and smart TVs. Each one gets its own Pause button.

  • Pause one child's device without stopping anyone else's
  • "One more hour": allow it for an hour, and it pauses again by itself
  • Pause until morning with one tap
  • Both parents can have a login, and you can see who pressed what

Run a small office?

We are not offering an office version yet. If you would like to control the computers and devices at your workplace, ask us and we will tell you honestly whether it can be done.

Ask us

How it starts

You don't set anything up. We do.

  1. Tell us what router you have

The make and model are printed on a label underneath. Tell us that and roughly how many devices you want to control.

  2. We set it up for you

If your router can do it, we programme it remotely while you watch. If it can't, we tell you which router would, and set that up for you instead.

  3. You get your own page

Open it on your phone, log in, and your devices are there with their buttons. Add it to your home screen and it works like an app.

The honest answer about routers

Will it work with the one I've got?

Maybe.

This works by giving instructions to the router itself, so the router has to be a kind that accepts them. The free box from a broadband company usually isn't. We will tell you straight, before you pay anything.

The make and model are printed on a label on the bottom or back of the router, usually next to a barcode. A photo of that label is all we need.

If your router can do it
We programme the one you already have. Nothing new to buy.
If it can't
We tell you which router would work and what it would cost. If you go ahead, we set it up for you.
Either way
Your broadband stays with the company you already use.

Check my router

What to expect

What it does, and what it doesn't.

It does

  • Stop a chosen device using your internet, within a few seconds
  • Bring it back just as quickly
  • Run timers by itself, even with your phone switched off
  • Work from anywhere: the school gate, the train, your desk
  • Leave every other device alone

It doesn't

  • Stop mobile data. A phone with its own data allowance can still use that
  • Show you what anyone looked at. It is an on and off switch, not a spy
  • Stop a video the instant you press. One already playing can run on for a short while
  • Follow a device to someone else's Wi-Fi
  • Block chosen websites or apps. Each device is simply on or off

Keeping it safe

Your router is never left open to the internet.

One private connection out. Nothing opened up for strangers.
Your router makes one private, scrambled connection out to our server. That connection reaches the router only, not the computers, cameras or phones behind it.
You see your own devices and nobody else's.
Our own access is protected by a second login step, and every change is recorded.
A long password, made by a computer.
Not chosen in a hurry, so the children can't guess it.
We hold your router's admin password, locked.
Our server needs it to switch the rules on and off. It is stored scrambled, and it can only ever be sent to your own router. You can end the link yourself at any time, and we will show you how.

What it costs

A set-up charge, then a small monthly fee.

The set-up covers checking your router, programming it for your devices and getting you logged in. The monthly fee keeps your page running and covers up to three small changes a year, such as adding a new tablet.

If you need a different router, that is priced separately and is yours to keep.

Price slot

CM to confirm. Suggested by the review: router check free; set-up 150 pounds once; then 10 pounds a month or 100 pounds a year, including up to three small changes a year; further changes 25 pounds each. Until confirmed, this says ask for a quote.

Questions people ask

Before you get in touch.

Do I need to be good with computers?

No. If you can use a phone, you can use this. We do the set-up, and the page has big buttons that say Pause and Allow.

Can the children just switch it back on?

Not from the page. The buttons only work for someone logged in as you, and the password is long and made by a computer. But no home system is child-proof. A phone can switch to its own mobile data or a neighbour's Wi-Fi, and an old broadband box left switched on is another way round. We check for these when we set it up.

What about their phone's own data?

This controls your home internet. A phone with mobile data can keep using that. On an iPhone, Screen Time can limit mobile data, and we can show you how.

Does anything need installing on the devices?

Nothing. It all happens at the router, so it works for tablets, laptops, consoles and smart TVs alike, and there is no app for a child to remove.

What if your service goes down?

Your internet carries on as normal. You just can't press the buttons until it is back. A device that was paused stays paused, and one that was allowed stays allowed. A timer due in that time runs late, once the service is back.

Can I set fixed bedtimes?

Not yet. Today it does Pause, Allow and timers, such as pause until 7am. Regular times every night are something we are working on.

Where are you?

In the UK. Set-up is done remotely, so it doesn't matter where in the country you are.

Still have a question? Ask it in the form below; it goes in the same email.

The small print, in plain words

Who we are, what we keep, and how to leave.

Who runs it
CM to fill in: your full name, any trading name, and a postal address. The law asks a business selling to the public to show these.
What we keep
Your name and email address, the names you give your devices, your router's details including its admin password (locked away), and a record of each Pause and Allow and who pressed it. We use it only to run the service. We do not sell it or share it, and we never see what anyone looks at online.
For how long
For as long as you use the service. When you leave, we switch off your page and the link to your router, and you can ask us to remove your details.
Leaving
Cancel at any time by telling us. If you change your mind within 14 days of signing up, you can cancel and we will refund what you have paid, less the cost of any work you asked us to start in that time. When you leave, we take the link off your router and show you how to check it has gone.
This page
It sets no cookies and does not track you. Its lettering comes from Google Fonts, which sees your internet address when the page loads.

CM to check before going public: have this small print read against the Information Commissioner's guidance (and by a solicitor if you can), and check your ICO registration covers it.

Start here

Tell us your router. We'll tell you if it works.

No charge for the check. You'll get a straight answer and a price.

This opens an email in your own mail app, ready for you to send. Nothing is sent until you press send.

CM to decide: the address enquiries go to.
